La nuit au musée: A Sip of the Roaring 20's - Nov 5, 2026

-
1345 Bush Street
San Francisco

For one night, the Alliance Française de San Francisco & the Francophone Museum of San Francisco transforms into a 1920s speakeasy.
Step back into les années folles and into an evening of live music, dancing, and Jazz Age glamour. When Prohibition threatened to dry out California, French winemakers and traditions helped keep the state's wine alive, one more thread tying France and California together. Tonight we explore that history, with Prohibition-era cocktails and wines to sip and a Francophone buffet to savor.

Come dressed in your finest flapper party attire for a night of casino games, a short talk on Prohibition in the Bay Area from historian Rebecca Yerger, and two live sets of jazz from Charles Unger Experience and La Gauloise All Stars.
Our Charleston swing lesson will have you out on the dance floor in no time.

Charles Unger Experience
A major force in the music scene of the San Francisco Bay area for the last 40 years, saxophonist Charles Unger is a musical institution. He is known for his exuberant style and talent, and for a stage show that is unforgettable.
A regular performer at various San Francisco clubs, Charles is an innovator in the genres of Jazz, R&B and World Beat. Charles, who plays alto, tenor and soprano saxophones, was deeply influenced by the seminal works of artists such as Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Grover Washington, Kenny Garrett and Lester Young, but has also drawn on a lifetime of experience playing with top level musicians the world over. Charles brings an undeniable sense of joy to his performances, with a smile that welcomes even the most recalcitrant listeners to the party, then proceeds to open up avenues of music that are enjoyable for the uninitiated and the aficionado alike.
Charles Unger is a great player who loves what he is doing. Music for him is a spiritual mission and a quest for a kind of secular redemption that he has pursued since he was a child — one that sustains him and has brought him a wealth of knowledge and experience.

La Gauloise All Stars
La Gauloise All Stars has arrived, and the Bay Area will never quite be the same.
This electrifying eight-piece ensemble bursts onto the scene as the ultimate celebration of France’s most iconic pop and rock anthems, delivering the unforgettable soundtrack of the ’60s through the ’90s with irresistible style and swagger. From the rebellious riffs of Téléphone to the cool sophistication of Jacques Dutronc, the timeless charm of Joe Dassin, the sultry sparkle of Vanessa Paradis, the soaring passion of Daniel Balavoine, the rock-and-roll elegance of Eddy Mitchell, the disco brilliance of Claude François, the yé-yé magic of France Gall, the new-wave pulse of Indochine, the epic sing-along anthems of Jean-Jacques Goldman, and the unforgettable melodies of Michel Delpech — the band revives the songs generations grew up singing at the top of their lungs.
Fronted by the dynamic vocal trio Violetta Vieux, Yves Lewi, and Laurent Fourgo, and powered by the exceptional musicianship of Stéphane Blanchard (guitar & vocals), Christian Iribarren and Raphaël Cola (keyboards), Don Ciccone (bass), and Gilles Combrisson (drums), La Gauloise All Stars delivers a performance that is equal parts concert, celebration, and French cultural extravaganza.
This isn’t just a show, it’s a full-blown French party. Expect nostalgia, sing-alongs, irresistible grooves, and a dance floor that refuses to stay quiet.
Memories will come rushing back… but staying in your seat will be absolutely impossible.
