Muddy Waters Café & Baobab Lounge: Where Coffee Meets West Africa

Located on Valencia Street in San Francisco’s Mission District, Muddy Waters Café & Baobab Lounge is a vibrant gathering place where coffee, food, music, and West African culture come together.

During the day, the café offers coffee, smoothies, breakfast, and a selection of West African–inspired dishes. Ingredients such as fonio, moringa, baobab, hibiscus, cassava, and plantain bring distinctive flavors and traditions to the menu.

As the day turns into evening, the atmosphere shifts into Baobab Lounge—a warm, intimate space centered around music, drinks, food, and community. Inspired by West African culture and the deep musical connections between Africa and the African American blues tradition, the lounge offers a unique cultural experience in the heart of the Mission.

Beyond food and drinks, the space also brings people together through a variety of events and activities, including language meetups, karaoke sessions, live music, and other community gatherings.
