A different itinerary from our previous trips, we had a short adventure in the south of France visiting Saint- Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Nice, Eze and Monaco before Ineke headed to Milan for a perfume trade show and Bill headed to Paris via Arles. We were welcomed to Nice by a big downpour, then drove around in a black mini Cooper convertible through winding roads and hairpin turns of this picturesque region. Despite the rain in Nice, we saw a fine photographic exhibit called “The Manhattan Darkroom: Henri Dauman”, who was French but moved to NYC early in his life, where he photographed politicians, artists, musicians, etc. as a photojournalist for Life Magazine.

We stayed in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat , which we highly recommend. The most surprising part of the trip was our visit to Eze which is a cute little town with an astonishing view of the Mediterranean. We almost missed it as we parked to have lunch wondering where was this cute town we had heard about, and then realized there was a sign pointing to the pedestrian-only hillside town across the street. We discovered winding cobblestone streets and a lovely botanical garden on a bright, sunny spring day. Nothing can beat that.

After Eze we took some windy turns and visited Monaco before returning to our hotel. While Ineke went to Milan, Bill visited Arles given its reputation as the photographic center of France. Unfortunately, it was 3-4 weeks too early for anything art-related, and the city was pretty but very quiet. Guess Bill needs to return there in the summer.
